“Bugibba” is a concept album. Subsequent songs, in a more or less digressive way, in a more or less veiled manner, once in the first person and another time in the third person, with highly vivid, visual and tightly knitted rhymes, tell the story of an artist’s personal collapse as a young man. This is a kind of memoir of a time of immaturity, bakakai, whose protagonist is finally reborn as a Phoenix from the ashes, only to reach, in the last tracks, the state of mind and spirit mysteriously called Bugibba. And what is this state? Maybe the definition from Wikipedia might give us a clue: “Bugibba is a resort in Malta, particularly popular among retired presidents of the island.” Associations with boogie and the act of swinging (gibanie się) are also implied. Obviously, other interpretations are possible as well. For example, the recovered peace of mind and inner balance, the regained sense of control and subjectivity. The beats we can hear on the record were crafted by Yannick Dilée whom Kalafior met in Paris and who produces music in the comfort of his own home. The rest was taken care of by Kalafior himself in his hometown and its surroundings. He has written the lyrics and performed them. The rhymes were recorded under the eye (and ear) of Michał Miegoń in Sound 8 Gdynia. Mastering was done by Mikołaj Bugajak (Audio-Games.pl).
