Reissue of the album by the legendary Sami Swoi band "The Locust" ("Szarańcza"). The album was recorded live in July 1980, when the band Sami Swoi was at the peak of its popularity, and released a year later in the Polish Jazz series under number 67. The album "The Locust" is a very important document in the history of our jazz scene.

The band owed its success not only to the competence and skills of the musicians, but also to its own arrangements and original, recognizable sound. The style of the band at that time was a result of the stylistic preferences of individual musicians. The basis was the mainstream from the big band era, and from there they made excursions into both tradition and modernity, while the distinguishing feature of their identity was the big band sound, the unique "Sami Swoi sound".

Here is what Willis Conover said after the band's concert at the Akwarium club (Jazz Jamboree 1981): "I was delighted with the playing of Sami Swoich: three saxophones, two trumpets, a trombone and the rhythm section sounded like a full big band, like Woody Herman's or Count Basie's orchestra. And at the same time their playing was full of swing, creative improvisation and musicality... I didn't expect to hear so much music, for such a small band to achieve such a wonderful big band sound." The album was released by Polskie Nagrania in an exclusive reissue of the cult Polish Jazz series, known to fans of Polish jazz music since the 1960s.

Płyta została nagrana na żywo w lipcu 1980 roku, kiedy zespół Sami Swoi był u szczytu popularności, a wydana rok później w serii Polish Jazz pod numerem 67. Album "The Locust" jest bardzo ważnym dokumentem w historii naszej sceny jazzowej.

Zespół zawdzięczał sukces nie tylko kompetencjom i umiejętnościom muzyków, ale także własnym aranżacjom i oryginalnemu, rozpoznawalnemu brzmieniu. Ówczesny styl zespołu był wypadkową preferencji stylistycznych poszczególnych muzyków. Podstawą był mainstream z ery big bandów i stąd robiono wycieczki zarówno w stronę tradycji, jak i współczesności, zaś wyróżnikiem tożsamości było brzmienie bigbandowe, unikalny "Sami Swoi sound".

Oto wypowiedź Willisa Conovera po koncercie formacji w klubie Akwarium (Jazz Jamboree 1981): "Byłem zachwycony grą Samych Swoich: trzy saksofony, dwie trąbki, puzon i sekcja rytmiczna zabrzmiały jak pełny big band, jak orkiestra Woody’ego Hermana czy Counta Basie’ego. A przy tym ich granie było pełne swingu, twórczej improwizacji i muzykalności… Nie spodziewałem się usłyszeć tak wiele muzyki, żeby taki mały zespół osiągnął tak wspaniałe bigbandowe brzmienie".

Album został wydany przez Polskie Nagrania w ekskluzywnej reedycji kultowej serii Polish Jazz, znanej fanom polskiej muzyki jazzowej od lat 60.
