A genuine super-quartet of Portuguese and French musicians associated with the Clean Feed label release a phenomenal concert recording within the Spontaneous Music Tribune series. For Luis Vicente, one of the world wide leaders of the avangarde trumpet, this is the third album in the series. Marcelo Dos Reis, a fabulous guitarist, collaborates with Luis within the amazing The Frame trio. The French cellist, Valentin Ceccaldi, is the collaborator of Joëlle Léandre on seminal “Can You Hear Me?” and Luís Lopes on the epochal “Guillotine”. Last, but not least, Marco Franco is a notable member of “The Attic” trio with Gonçalo Almeida and Rodrigo Amado. It is worth noticing that the present quartet consist of 3 of the famous drum-less ensemble Chamber 4, in which Valentin’ brother Théo plays violin.
The quartet performs at the Casa das Artes da Fundaçao Bissaya Barreto in Coimbra, and performs truly fantastically. This is the contemporary post-avantgarde from Iberian Peninsula at its best: the music that combines and superimposes free improvisation, free jazz, contemporary chamber and minimal music. As usual for SMT productions, there is plenty of special effects, sounds generated from prepared instruments, and “fake music”: the trumpet may sound like a cello, the cello like a guitar, the guitar like a trumpet, and the drums like anything one can imagine. Four tracks have as a subject punctuation in the grammatical sense. An eruption of energy and synergy of four ingenious artists, who know perfectly where to put commas, colons, semi-colons and most importantly “Exclamation Mark”, “Question Mark” and “Endpoint”. Magisterial performance! Period.

Prawdziwy super-kwartet portugalskich i francuskich muzyków, związanych z wytwórnią Clean Feed, proponuje fenomenalne nagranie koncertowe w serii Spontaneous Music Tribune. Dla Luisa Vicente, jednego ze światowych liderów awangardowej trąbki, jest to trzeci album w tej serii. Marcelo Dos Reis, wspaniały gitarzysta, współpracuje z Luisem w niesamowitym The Frame Trio. Francuski wiolonczelista, Valentin Ceccaldi, jest współpracownikiem Joëlle Léandre w przełomowym „Can You Hear Me?”, a także Luísa Lopesa w epokowej „Guillotine”. Wreszcie, Marco Franco, to godny uwagi członek tria „The Attic” z Gonçalo Almeidą i Rodrigo Amado. Warto zauważyć, że obecny tu kwartet składa się z 3 słynnego, pozbawionego perkusji, zespołu Chamber 4, w którym brat Valentina Théo gra na skrzypcach.

Kwartet koncertuje w Casa das Artes da Fundaçao Bissaya Barreto w Coimbrze i czyni to naprawdę fantastycznie. To współczesna post-awangarda z Półwyspu Iberyjskiego w najlepszym wydaniu: muzyka, która łączy i nakłada na siebie wolną improwizację, free jazz, współczesną muzykę kameralną i estetykę minimal. Jak zwykle w produkcjach SMT, mamy mnóstwo efektów specjalnych, dźwięków generowanych przez preparowane instrumenty i „fałszywą muzykę”: trąbka może brzmieć jak wiolonczela, wiolonczela jak gitara, gitara jak trąbka, a bębny jak wszystko, co tylko można sobie wyobrazić. Cztery utwory mają tu, jako temat główny, interpunkcję w sensie gramatycznym. Erupcja energii i synergii czterech pomysłowych artystów, którzy doskonale wiedzą, gdzie umieścić przecinki, dwukropki, średniki i, co najważniejsze, „wykrzyknik”, „znak zapytania” i „punkt końcowy”. Mistrzowski występ! Kropka.
