Everything around us was quiet. There was no wind, which was also the reason why we couldn´t sail. The only sound which broke through the silence was the regular chitter of the engine. We were like a small closed organism. We were forming our own universe, it was like all the connections to the rest of the world were broken. [...] This little creature was so tired, he was mute and sleeping all the time. [...] Maybe the sailor was right - maybe the little bird really tried to escape the war, away from the mountains where the shooting started, away from the bad energy of the people who were preparing for the war. This negative energy is enough for animals to know that something terrible is going to happen. And this feeling of the bird was a feeling a lot of us had, also me and the sailor. Wszystko wokó³ nas by³o ciche, nie by³o wiatru w zwi±zku z czym nie mogli¶my ¿eglowaæ. Jedynym d¼wiêkiem, który przedziera³ siê przez ciszê, by³ zwyk³y ha³as silnika. Byli¶my jak ma³y zamkniêty organizm – tworzyli¶my w³asny wszech¶wiat, jakby wszystkie po³±czenia z reszt± ¶wiata zosta³y zerwane. […] Ta ma³a istota by³a przera¿ona, kompletnie niema i bezustannie ¶pi±ca […] Mo¿e sternik mia³ racjê – mo¿e ten ma³y ptak naprawdê próbowa³ uciec przed wojn±, byæ jak najdalej od gór, w których zaczê³y siê strzelaniny, z dala od z³ej energii ludzi przygotowuj±cych siê do wojny. Przeczucie tej energii sprawia, ¿e zwierzêta wiedz±, ¿e nadchodzi co¶ strasznego. I to uczucie, które dostrzegali¶my w ptaku, wielu z nas odnajdywa³o te¿ w sobie, nie wy³±czaj±c mnie i sternika. Ten okropny strach...
