R. IWANSKI (Rafał Iwański a.k.a. X-Navi:Et, known from groups VOICES OF THE COSMOS, ||ALA|MEDA|| / Alameda, HATI, ex KAPITAL ex Innercity Ensemble) presents new sound project explorating experimental approach to ethnic instruments like zanza, kalimba and other idiophones of African origin.
Advanced electronic techniques are mainly used to process various acoustic sources - in order to create organic electroacoustic music. The unique marriage of "foreign traditions and technology" - is, however, a path that goes further than ethno-ambient.

Author's note:
The idea of composing and recording an album of electroacoustic music for instruments of African origin from the lamellophone family was born more than 10 years ago. At that time, after the XNAVI:ET concert at the Blurred Edges festival in Hamburg, I bought my first instrument from this group of idiophones - it was a sanza from South Africa. Then, over the years, other sanzas and
kalimbas came along. I now have six lamellophones in my collection of acoustic instruments, comprising several hundred from all over the world. These instruments, from a group of idiophones
that has been close to me for years due to their practice (on which, for example, the sound of the band HATI was based from the beginning), generally go under at least four basic names, depending on the region of Africa: zanza, mbira, kalimba, likembe. Plucked idiophones are found in countries such as Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Angola, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi, Nigeria and South Africa, among others. The generic name kalimba is the most common, thanks to English ethnomusicologist Hugh Tracey. During the recording of the tracks on 'Transformations I', I also used other percussion instruments (including rattles, spring tubes and metal objects). I processed the sound of the zanza, kalimba and zanzula through various effects
processors and partially looped.

X-Navi:Et; VOICES OF THE COSMOS, Alameda Organisation, HATI, ex INNERCITY ENSEMBLE, ex KAPITAL) prezentuje nowy projekt dźwiękowy eksplorujący eksperymentalne podejście do instrumentów etnicznych takich jak zanza, kalimba i inne idiofony pochodzenia afrykańskiego. Zaawansowane techniki elektroniczne służą głównie do przetwarzania różnych źródeł akustycznych w celu stworzenia organicznej muzyki elektroakustycznej. Unikalny mariaż „obcych tradycji i technologii” - to jednak droga idąca dalej niż etno-ambient.

Co sam autor mówi o tej płycie:
Pomysł skomponowania i nagrania albumu z muzyką elektroakustyczną na instrumenty pochodzenia afrykańskiego z rodziny lamelofonów zrodził się ponad 10 lat temu. Wtedy to, po koncercie X-NAVI:ET na festiwalu "Blurred Edges" w Hamburgu, zakupiłem swój pierwszy instrument z tej grupy idiofonów szarpanych – była to zanza z RPA. Potem, przez lata, doszły następne zanzy i kalimby. Obecnie w mojej kolekcji instrumentów akustycznych, liczącej kilkaset egzemplarzy z całego świata, jest szcześć lamelofonów. Instrumenty te, z bliskiej mi od lat ze względu na praktykę grupy idiofonów (na których oparte było od początku np. brzmienie zespołu HATI), występują generalnie pod co najmniej czterema podstawowymi nazwami, w zależności od regionu Afryki: zanza, mbira, kalimba, likembe.

Podczas rejestracji utworów na "Transformations I" używałem też kilka innych instrumentów perkusyjnych (m.in. grzechotki, spring tubes, obiekty metalowe). Dźwięk zanzy, kalimby i zanzuli przetwarzałem przez rozmaite procesory efektów, częściowo loopowałem.
Wszystkie fenomeny muzyczne i kulturowe związane ze wspomnianą grupą instrumentów są dla mnie niezwykle inspirujące. Instrument ten, z popularnej.......
