One of the unusually interesting concerts of the 11th Oratorio Music Festival MUSICA SACROMONTANA in 2016 was dedicated to Laudi Spirituali, i.e. St. Philip’s spiritual hymns, discovered during the works of the Holy Mountain Music Lovers’ Association in the library of the Santa Maria in Vallicella church in Rome. On the one hand, these Renaissance music gems present the figure and spirituality of the founder of the Congregation of the Oratory of Saint Philip Neri, on the other hand, they are a fascinating testimony of the musical culture of their times.
Laude belong to the oldest repertoire of songs in the Italian language - St. Francis of Assisi is considered as the creator of the genre. During three centuries, which have elapsed since the times of St. Francis to the late Renaissance, the genre developed and slightly transformed - it was the favourite music of Philip Neri and it was created for him by often outstanding, highly educated composers - however, laude still remained joyful, relatively simple in their form songs of pious nature, close to the urban folklore. They are characterised by a certain simplicity, which seems to fit into the place of prayer and my intention, which was only to encourage the devotion, wrote one of the greatest creators of the genre, Giovanni Animuccia.

Jeden z niezwykle ciekawych koncertów XI Festiwalu Muzyki Oratoryjnej MUSICA SACROMONTANA w 2016 roku poświęcony był Laudi Spirituali, czyli hymnom duchowym św. Filipa, odnalezionym w trakcie prac Stowarzyszenia Miłośników Muzyki Świętogórskiej w bibliotece kościoła Santa Maria in Vallicella w Rzymie. Te renesansowe perełki muzyczne w równym stopniu przybliżają postać i duchowość założyciela Zgromadzenia Księży Filipinów, co są fascynującym świadectwem kultury muzycznej swoich czasów.
Laudy należą do najstarszego repertuaru pieśni w języku włoskim - za twórcę gatunku uważa się św. Franciszka z Asyżu. W ciągu trzech wieków, jakie upłynęły od czasów św.Franciszka do późnego renesansu, gatunek rozwinął się i nieco przekształcił - była to ulubiona muzyka Filipa Neri, a tworzyli ją dla niego nierzadko wybitni, wysoko wykształceni kompozytorzy - wciąż jednak laudy pozostawały radosnymi, stosunkowo prostymi w formie pieśniami, o nabożnym charakterze, bliskimi folklorowi miejskiemu. Charakteryzuje je pewna prostota, która wydaje się pasować do miejsca modlitwy i mojego zamiaru, jakim było wyłącznie pobudzenie pobożności pisał jeden z najznamienitszych twórców gatunku, Giovanni Animuccia.
