The album we present to you after 10 years of activity is our artistic perspective on Silesian traditional music, which has matured within us over these years. On the one hand, we draw heavily from our Silesian roots, and on the other, we shape them with our own hands. Our "Silesian garden" is a collection of various plants – some mysterious, some joyful, some romantic, some menacing, some even fairytale-like and poetic – but all are beautiful and captivating. The pieces on the album include both gems of Silesian traditional music discovered in the archives (the oldest recorded ones come from Józef Lompa's collection from 1843!) and four original compositions, which are our creative response to what the sources tell us.
We wish you a pleasant, moving listening experience and a colorful musical journey through Silesia, both past and present!
Kapela Fedak is a family band from Katowice, playing traditional music from Silesia and other parts of the country, as well as original music inspired by Polish traditional music. The band also promotes traditional music and dances by organizing and leading workshops, dances, and other creative activities, always involving local communities and workshop participants. The band performs and educates both in their region and further afield – in Krakow, Warsaw, Prague, and Ostrava.
To say that Kapela Fedak shares the joy of traditional music with its listeners would be an understatement to convey the band's uniqueness. The musicians demonstrate that the sounds produced by instruments once frequently used in the Polish and Silesian countryside, further enhanced by the family warmth and unmistakable sense of humor of the Fedak family, allow everyone to find their place in the friendly atmosphere of beautiful mu....... more
