Jazz at the Most Beautiful Festival in the World has a long and beautiful tradition. Sure, it's not a jazz festival, but it's at a rock 'n' roll festival that such jazz moments are deeply memorable. Every year, we invite you to push the boundaries of our festival possibilities, and every year these boundaries surprise, and above all, draw listeners into a world of wonderful sounds, atmosphere, improvisation, and—I think—the exceptional power of jazz musicians, who, surprised by the warm reception, show the most beautiful side of their abilities.
In this world, Hania Derej and her quintet appeared at the Pol'and'Rock Festival 2025 for a unique, one-of-a-kind jazz concert. I'd heard a lot about her, and the mouthpiece for her exceptional talents was Piotrek "Dziki" Chancewicz, the guy who has been recording everything that happens at the festival from the very beginning and then reproducing it on our CDs and vinyl. Now I'm thinking that vinyl would give Hania's music the added, wonderful quality of the best jazz medium. Returning to the Festival, a small figure appeared before me, looking like a true Pol'and'Rock participant. There are many such "Hanias" at the Festival, and it's this youthfulness that sets the tone for our event. Hania was with her father; we had a moment for a brief conversation, which welcomed them to the Festival. A few hours later, the same Hania, but not the same, in a baseball cap, the leader of her crew, all artistically adorned, entered the Small Stage (in name only!) and played a superb, precisely composed, and disciplined concert. All my jazz worlds, heard either at the Jazz Jamboree or on Polish Jazz vinyl records, embraced me with this music and gave me an enormous sense of peace and confidence in where I was. A dozen or so hours later, I had the pleasure of opening the 31st edition of the Pol'and'Rock Festival. "Jazz na Najpiękniejszym Festiwalu Świata ma swoją długą i piękną tradycję. No pewnie, że nie jest to festiwal jazzowy, ale to właśnie na festiwalu rock’n’rollowym takie jazzowe momenty zapadają głęboko w pamięć. Co roku zapraszamy do przekraczania granic naszych festiwalowych możliwości i co roku te granice zaskakują, a przede wszystkim wciągają słuchaczy w świat cudownych dźwięków, klimatu, improwizacji i - wydaje mi się - wyjątkowej siły jazzmanów, którzy zaskoczeni gorącym przyjęciem pokazują najpiękniejszą stronę swoich możliwości.
W tym świecie na Pol’and’Rock Festival 2025 w wyjątkowym, jednym, jedynym, jazzowym koncercie pojawiła się Hania Derej ze swoim kwintetem. Dużo o niej słyszałem, a tubą opowieści o jej wyjątkowych zdolnościach był Piotrek „Dziki” Chancewicz, czyli gościu, który od początku nagrywa wszystko to, co na festiwalu ma miejsce, a później zgrywa to w postaci naszych płyt CD i winyli. Tak sobie teraz pomyślałem, że właśnie na winylu muzyka Hani miałaby dodatkowy, cudowny walor najlepszego jazzowego nośnika.
Wracając do Festiwalu – ukazała mi się drobna postać, która wyglądała na 100% uczestnika Pol'and'Rock. Takich „Hań” na Festiwalu jest bardzo dużo i to ta młodość nadaje ton naszemu wydarzeniu. Hania była ze swoim tatą, mieliśmy chwilę na krótką rozmowę, która przywitała ich na Festiwalu. Kilka godzin później ta sama Hania, ale też nie ta sama, w bejsbolówce, liderka swojej ekipy, cała w artystycznym anturażu, weszła na Małą Scenę (tylko z nazwy!) i zagrała bardzo dobry, bardzo precyzyjnie skomponowany i z ogromną dyscypliną wykonany koncert. Wszystkie moje jazzowe światy, wysłuchane albo na Jazz Jamboree, albo na winylowych płytach wydawnictwa Polish Jazz, przytuliły mnie do tej muzyki i dały mi przeogromny ładunek spokoju i pewności miejsca, w którym jestem. Kilkanaście godzin później miałem przyjemność otwierać 31. edycję Pol’and’Rock Festival. W całym spokoj.......
