Dragons 1976 is the horn bass drum trio of Aram Shelton, Jason Ajemian and Timothy M. Daisy. The
three met in Chicago in the early 00's as all were drawn to the city as a place to develop their music. All
highly active in the creative music scene there, Dragons 1976 formed in a natural way after playing
together for several years and released their first album On Cortez on Locust music in 2003. Largely
improvisational, the music of Dragons 1976 focuses on their individuality as musicians while using
composed parts to guide the form and structure. While rooted in and influenced by music of the jazz
idiom, the music of Dragons 1976 is never bound to it's tradition, as each of the members is influenced by
a wide array of styles including minimalism, folk, rock, electronic and free improvisation.

"The most striking aspect of Dragons 1976’s music is their concern for form and structure. Its foundation
is given by compositions within which the players can make decisions, thus leaving more or less room for
improvisation, solos and group interaction. The result is a music whose development is determined by the
opening head, but not at the cost of spontaneity and freshness. Moreover, open and totally improvised
sections are also marked by this aspect. Combined with the musicians’ technical skills, one gets music of
great cohesion and unity that never loses its way, no matter how far it ends up from its starting point."

"...Zaskakuje przede wszystkim brzmienie saksofonu lidera: ciemne i głębokie, ale niezwykle płynne i linearne, zupełnie odmienne od atomowych erupcji i "transgenicznych" saksofonowych mutacji, kojarzonych czasem ze środowiskiem skupionym wokół Kena Vandermarka. Siła i kontrola narracji nie koliduje bynajmniej z momentami melancholijnego letargu i frazami tak melodycznymi, że w innym świecie mogłyby być dziecięcymi kołysankami ("She Lay Sleeping"). Oparte o stabilny szkielet perkusji Tima Daisy'ego i wypełnione głębokim kontrabasem Jasona Ajemiana kompozycje zaskakują logiczną strukturą i bogactwem barw, brakiem nachalności i próżnych popisów. Shelton dysponuje wyobraźnią architekta, dokładnie ważącego efekt estetyczny i zdolności konstrukcyjne muzycznych składników. W "She Lay Sleeping" precyzyjne frazy saksofonu odbijają się o cienką sieć wibrafonowej pajęczyny Daisy'ego, nie rozrywając jej filigranowej struktury. W "To Tight" konsekwentna linia melodyczna lidera tonie w cudownym solu kontrabasu Jasona Ajemiana. "Hold it High" obrazowo nawiązuje do scenicznej pozy Alberta Aylera, dla którego uniesiony w górę saksofon stał się znakiem rozpoznawczym. Ostre frazy i intensywne brzmienie sekcji nie pozwalają zapomnieć, że ojcami chrzestnymi tej formacji są muzyczni rewolucjoniści lat 60. i mieszkańcy nowojorskich loftów dekadę później. Drapieżne, ale zbalansowane i przenikliwie logiczne. Płytę kończy "The Forewarned", rodzaj grupowego manifestu i deklaracji motorycznego uporu w poszukiwaniu współbrzmień kompletnych..."
