"The Man Comes Around" został uznany przez publiczność i krytyków za najlepszy z całej serii American Recordings Casha... W wielu krajach na szczytach list przebojów sprzedaży, a nad Wisłą..., cóż, ktoś w jakimś wielkim major-labelu widocznie nie wiedział kto zacz... Skandal i hańba... W rezultacie płyta z 2002 roku do dziś nie była oficjalnie dostępna w Polsce!
The fourth in Cash's Grammy Award–winning series of collaborations with producer Rick Rubin, The Man Comes Around features new Cash songs as well as his versions of songs by Nine Inch Nails, Sting, Depeche Mode, and the Beatles. His cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge over Troubled Water" features Fiona Apple; his take on Hank Williams' "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" features Nick Cave; and his version of the Eagles' "Desperado" features Don Henley.
"It is a relief to hear that although Cash's voice is clearly older and not the booming powerhouse it was in the earlier Sun and Columbia days, he's still got some punch left in him, and the wisdom he's gained in his later life seeps through between the grooves, revealing a man who has lived through it all and lived to tell the tale."
