Maarja Nuut is a young and gifted fiddle player/singer from North-Estonia. Her playing is inspired by the old dance tunes and songs that tell the stories of past peoples lives and her own journeys.

Maarja's broad musical horizons and interest in different cultures have taken the musician on journeys to various places across the world. When she started her traditional music studies at Viljandi Culture Academy she was fascinated by the sound and intensity of old Estonian village musicians. It is precisely the modes, rhythms and moods that have helped Maarja find her very own and closest that has also inspired her to compose music. An important impulse to Maarja's playing style is its danceability providing a special rhythmic touch and sensitive skill of variation.

Maarja is presently pursuing her MA degree at the Royal Stockholm Academy of Music and focusing on older Estonian violin music as well as dance. She is also active as a teacher and has given courses both in Estonia and abroad. Maarja also plays in the group Knihv and in the international group Ethno in Transit - the latter has intensively performed concerts all over Europe, but also in Australia.

Maarja Nuut jest młodą i utalentowaną skrzypaczką i wokalistką z północnej Estonii. Inspiracje czerpie z tradycyjnych estońskich pieśni i melodii tanecznych a także z własnych podróży.

Szerokie muzyczne horyzonty Maarji, oraz zainteresowanie różnymi kulturami zabrały ją w podróż do wielu miejsc na całym świecie. Podczas studiowania muzyki tradycyjnej w Viljandi Culture Academy była zafascynowana brzmieniem i siłą ekspresji starych estońskich wiejskich muzykantów. To właśnie te nastroje i rytmy zainspirowały Maarję do tworzenia muzyki a także sprawiły, że odnalazła swój własny styl muzyczny. Bardzo duży nacisk kładzie ona na rytmiczność i taneczność muzyki.

Maarja obecnie jest na studiach magisterskich w Royal Stockholm Academy of Music i skupia się na starej estońskiej muzyce skrzypcowej oraz tanecznej. Zajmuje się również nauczaniem, zarówno w Estonii jak i zagranicą. Jest członkinią zespołu Knihv oraz międzynarodowej grupy Ethno in Transit z którą intensywnie koncertuje zarówno w Europie jak i Australii.
