Kashubia is the most distinct ethnic group in Pomerania, distinguished by its sense of regional distinctiveness and rich folk traditions. The Kashubian language survived despite centuries of rule in these lands by the Teutonic Order and then by the Prussian state. It was not until after World War I that Kashubia returned to Poland and then Kashubian culture was revived: artistic creativity, periodicals, theatre, which popularised old customs, songs and dances, mass singing and museum movement.

Currently, Kashubian folklore is strongly linked to the folklore of other regions of Poland, and direct German influences are minor, although visible in some ritual songs. The album includes dance melodies, spectacular dances-games, love songs, courtship songs and ritual songs, including wedding songs. Of particular note are the rituals during Advent, Christmas Eve, the time of caroling, Easter, Midsummer's Eve, the end of harvest, and the music played on November 1st in front of the cemetery gates. The release of the CD took place with the financial support of the Institute of Music and Dance.

Kaszuby stanowią najbardziej wyrazistą grupę etniczną na Pomorzu, wyróżniającą się poczuciem odrębności regionalnej i bogactwem tradycji ludowych. Język kaszubski przetrwał mimo wielowiekowego panowania na tych ziemiach zakonu krzyżackiego, a następnie państwa pruskiego. Dopiero po I wojnie światowej Kaszuby wróciły w granice Polski i wtedy nastąpiło ożywienie kultury kaszubskiej: twórczości artystycznej, czasopiśmiennictwa, teatru, który spopularyzował dawne zwyczaje, pieśni i tańce, masowego ruchu śpiewaczego i muzealnego.

Obecnie folklor Kaszub jest silnie powiązany z folklorem innych regionów Polski, a bezpośrednie wpływy niemieckie są niewielkie, choć widoczne w niektórych pieśniach obrzędowych. Na płycie znalazły się melodie taneczne, widowiskowe tańce-zabawy, pieśni miłosne, zalotne i obrzędowe, w tym weselne. Na szczególną uwagę zasługują obrzędowe zachowania w czasie Adwentu, Wigilii, czasu kolędowania, Wielkanocy, sobótki, zakończenia żniw oraz muzyka grana 1 listopada przed cmentarnymi bramami. Wydanie płyty odbyło się przy wsparciu finansowym Instytutu Muzyki i Tańca.
