Krzysztof Penderecki's Romance with the Jazz Avant-Garde!

A legendary concert recording from a time when contemporary music and the jazz avant-garde were mutually fascinated. Reissue of the album originally released on vinyl by Wergo in 1973.

Krzysztof Penderecki and Don Cherry met at the Donaueschingen Music Festival in 1971 in Germany. Since then, the festival has become an important concert venue not only for avant-garde music.
Krzysztof Penderecki and Cherry were accompanied by the extraordinary New Eternal Rhythm Orchestra. For over thirty years, its members have been the most creative musicians in jazz and contemporary music (Tomasz Stańko, Peter Brotzmann, Terje Rypdal, Kenny Wheeler, Albert Mangelsdorff...)
The concert recording from Donaueschingen was originally released by Wergo and immediately spread among lovers of such extraordinary sounds 30 years ago! So we have a kind of debut. The material has been remastered in twenty-four-bit technology, and the attached booklet contains an introduction by the producer of the recording, the famous Joachim Ernst Berent, fragments of an interview with Krzysztof Penderecki and unpublished photographs from this extraordinary meeting.

The whole, inspired by world music, full of references to philosophy, religion, reaching for exotic scales and sounds, still remains close to jazz; it is also, despite the free jazz setting, very accessible in reception. This is probably because it is based on simple, �mantrically� repeated motifs with a distinct character, which create a strong base for the sharp outbursts of both the band and its members; thus, this music takes place on two planes.
(...) Cherry�'s second piece, Sita Rama Encores, is based on Madhyamadi-Raga, which the artist took from a collection of ragas published by Alaia Danielou, a well-known researcher of Indian music and ethnomusicologi.......

Romans Krzysztofa Pendereckiego z jazzową awangardą!

Legendarne nagranie koncertowe z czasów, gdy muzyka współczesna i awangarda jazzowa były sobą nawzajem zafascynowane. Reedycja albumu pierwotnie wydanego na winylu przez Wergo w 1973 roku.

Krzysztof Penderecki oraz Don Cherry spotkali się na festiwalu Donaueschingen Music Festiwal w 1971 roku w Niemczech. Od tego czasu festiwal stal się ważnym miejscem koncertowym nie tylko dla muzyki awangardowej.
Krzysztofowi Pendereckiemu oraz Cherry'emu towarzyszyła niezwykła orkiestra New Eternal Rhythm Orchestra. Od ponad trzydziestu lat jej członkowie są najbardziej kreatywnymi muzykami jazzu i muzyki współczesnej (Tomasz Stańko, Peter Brotzmann, Terje Rypdal, Kenny Wheeler, Albert Mangelsdorff...)
Koncertowe nagranie z Donaueschingen zostało oryginalnie wydane przez Wergo i natychmiast rozeszło się wśród miłośników tak niezwykłych dźwięków już 30 lat temu!. Mamy wiec swoisty debiut. Materiał został zremasterowany w dwudziestoczerobitowej technice, a dołączona książeczka zawiera wstęp pióra producenta nagrania, słynnego Joachima Ernsta Berenta, fragmenty wywiadu z Krzysztofem Pendereckim oraz nigdzie niepublikowane fotografie z tego niezwykłego spotkania.
