Editor's info:
""I love the desert- it is my home"" says Yair Dalal, who divides his time between the desert and urban life. The original compositions are rooted in the Middle East and Dalal's Judeo-Arab Babylonian heritage, and are also inspired by the red mountains, the Arava and Sinai desert, their people and scenery.
This live recording is from a concert that took place in a tent on the Shacharut mountain in the Arava, September 2000.
Yair Dalal is a leading figure on the Israeli music scene and within the ethnic and contemporary world music community, playing oud, violin and oriental violin. His position as one of the latest representatives of Jewish-Arab music from Iraq has anabled him to develop this rare mix of traditional and modern music.
Yair Dalal performs together with Avi Agababa and Asaf Zamir - two of Israel's finest ethnic percussionists. A special guest on ""Shacharut"" is Heleil Al Aweiwi from the Azazme Bedouin tribe, with his Shababa [flute] and G'urun [coffee grinder].
Avi Agababa - One of the foremost percussionists in Israel today, playing daf, darbukka and framedrums.
A musician with a varied musical background and vast musical knowledge, he graduated from the Rimon School of Jazz. Avi started his career as a drumset player. He performs with various Israeli artists of local and international fame.
He plays with a unique feeling for folk, ethnic, classical and oriental music and has become a part of the Israeli world music scene.
Asaf Zamir - started as a rock'n'roll drummer and later became Avi's student. Asaf has come a long way within the Middle Eastern percussion traditions, also playing darbukka, udu, framedrums, Moroccan Bongos, body and footbells and anything that can be used from drumming. He is a spontaneous and creative musician. Avi and Asaf work as an almost indivisible unit. They also perform together in workshops- ""Dombukchi"". Avi, Asaf and Yair were all born in Israel to
