Jadwiga Szembek (1883-1939) was an ethnographer, archaeologist, poet, writer, composer, and literary translator. Her ethnographic records come from the Siemianice estate in Greater Poland, where she was born and raised. They constitute a unique collection of peasant songs and dances, reflecting her fascination with her native land. These works were created with patriotic, scholarly, and aesthetic motives.

Here is the introduction Jadwiga wrote to her published works:

This is a very small contribution to the folklore of Greater Poland; these are only fragments of a rich material. Let someone else take up the task of completing them, since I am no longer able to do so.

I would like to call upon people of good will and enthusiasts to do so, as an urgent duty; One would like to loudly proclaim that in this district, almost completely neglected by the ethnographer, precious memorabilia are disappearing with each passing day and year, and that they will soon be gone! One would like to cry for their rescue in the name of this unfortunate Greater Poland people, who are becoming dulled by the struggle beyond their strength, completely immersed in the question of national existence, rapidly losing their ancient traits and customs, and who do not entice the researcher with the resounding harmony of their songs, nor the famed beauty of their attire, nor, finally, with the wild charm of the country... No; there, the singing is quiet and obscure, the clothing, though magnificent, little known and increasingly rare, the country monotonous and civilized. And yet, beneath this modest veneer, so many characteristic Polish features are still hidden; they only need to be discovered and utilized!

And so little time and effort are needed to gather into a book this.......

Jadwiga Szembek (1883-1939) była etnografką, archeolożką, poetką, pisarką, kompozytorką oraz tłumaczką literatury. Jej zapisy etnograficzne pochodzą z okolic majątku Siemianice w Wielkopolsce, gdzie się urodziła i wychowała. Stanowią one unikalny zbiór włościańskich pieśni i tańców, odzwierciedlających fascynację jej rodzinną krainą. Prace te powstały z pobudek patriotycznych, naukowych, estetycznych.

Na płycie znalazł się wybór utworów opublikowanych w 1906 roku.

Jest to bardzo mały przyczynek do folklorystyki wielkopolskiej, są to tylko okruchy bogatego materyału. [...]
Chciałoby się do tego wezwać ludzi dobrej woli i miłośników, jako do naglącego obowiązku; chciałoby się wielkim głosem roznieść, że w tej dzielnicy, zaniedbanej nieomal zupełnie przez etnografa, giną z każdym dniem i rokiem cenne pamiątki i że ich wnet zabraknie! Chciałoby się wołać na ich ratunek w imieniu tego nieszczęśliwego, wielkopolskiego ludu, który stępia się walką nad siły, zatapia cały w kwestyi narodowego bytu, traci szybko dawne cechy i zwyczaje, a nie nęci badacza ani rozgłośną harmonią swej pieśni, ani rozsławioną krasą przyodziewku, ani wreszcie dzikim urokiem kraju... Nie; tam śpiew cichy i pokątny, ubiór, choć wspaniały, mało znany i coraz rzadszy, kraj jednostajny i cywilizowany. A jednak pod tą skromną szatą tyle tu jeszcze schowanych cech charakterystycznych polskich, tylko odkryć i zużytkować je trzeba! Pisała Jadwiga Szembek.
