An absolutely must-have avant-rock classic of the 90s., one of the best albums of its kind, where advanced studio sonic experimentation meets refined influences of Faust and Can, funk, electronics, breakbeats and Dadaist humour – and results in long, crazy, multi-layered suites – a quintessence of what we are now accustomed to call post-rock…
The album’s been remastered in 2011; attractive bonus track.
Vas Deferens Organization is a musical collective hailing from Dallas which was founded by Matt Castille in tandem with Jason Cohen, Barbara Cohen, Craig Carlton, Breck Outland and occasionally Reagen Boone in 1994, with VDO’s other original principal member Eric Lumbleau having joined up with Matt in 1995 as these other artists were all on their way out of the band. For over decade and a half, ever since VDO’s inception, Matt, Eric and co. have put out a countless number of albums and collaborations which cover a vast array of musical dimensions – from experimental electronic works in the form of audio collage to efforts inspired by jazz-rock, ethnic music, raga, exotica, minimalism, dadaism, futurism, and krautrock.
Apart from his work as a recording artist, Matt Castille was also responsible for producing one of the most interesting and, sadly, relatively obscure albums of post-shoegaze neo-psychedelia – the eclectic Cruising In The Neon Glories Of The New American Night (1996) by Mazinga Phaser. Other notable VDO productions include: J. Bone Cro’s For Cryin’ Out Loud (1996) and Late Nite Songs For Truckers And Fuckers (1996), Ohm’s krautrock-inspired tour de force O2 (1997), and Yeti’s The Man With The Lamp (recorded in 2000, released in 2006).
My adventure with VDO began over 2 years ago, in early 2009. Back then, even in my wildest dreams I wouldn’t have expected that the 90’s could still surprise me... and to s....... more
Absolutny klasyk avant-post-rocka z lat 90-tych.
Vas Deferens Organization to pochodzący z Dallas muzyczny kolektyw założony w roku 1994 przez Matta Castille, wspólnie z Jasonem Cohenem, Barbarą Cohen, Craigiem Carltonem, Breckiem Outlandem i (okazjonalnym członkiem) Reagenem Boone.
Oprócz działalności artystycznej z VDO, Matt Castille odpowiedzialny był również za produkcję jednego z, moim zdaniem, ciekawszych i niestety zarazem stosunkowo nieznanych albumów post-shoegaze’owej neo-psychodelii – eklektycznego Cruising In The Neon Glories Of The New American Night (1996) autorstwa grupy Mazinga Phaser. Innymi godnymi uwagi produkcjami spod szyldu VDO były m.in. albumy For Cryin’ Out Loud (1996) i Late Nite Songs For Truckers And Fuckers (1996) współpracownika VDO – J. Bone Cro, profesorskie kompendium krautrocka – O2 (1997) grupy Ohm oraz płyta The Man With The Lamp (nagrana w 2000, wydana w 2006) z repertuaru zespołu Yeti.
